The last episode of Colors drama “Shakti Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki” brought in a major revelation in the story line where Saumya (essayed by Rubina Dilaik) was revealed to be a transgender (eunuch).
The loyal viewers were left stunned with the revelation on Shakti that the lead actress Rubina Dilaik’s character Soumya is a eunuch.
Recetly in an interview, the producer of the show, talks about the unique and bold concept of her show and how she hopes, in her own small way, to bring about a change in the society.
Talking about the unique concept of the show, she shared “As the name suggests, this is a show based on realisation of the power of our existence. It is not a regular daily soap; it comes with a promise of entertainment along with a social message. The show deals with a subject which has never been attempted on TV before. We fail to understand that eunuchs are as normal as we are and are free to live their lives the way they want to. We see them begging on streets and I feel that’s because we have left them no choice. This show is an attempt to bring the audience closer to the reality of eunuchs. We hope that our efforts bring about a change. Today our society has accepted LGBT and it’s time we accept the Third Gender as a part of our society”.
When questioned about how did she come up with this concept, she shared “The credit for this goes to Pawanji (her husband). He came up with the thought after which it took us months of brainstorming to develop this hard-hitting subject”.
Rashmi shared that it is the first time on Indian television that something like this has been attempted and she is definitely expecting a lot of mixed reactions. And hopes and I hope the audience accepts the truth in the show, and in reality.
